Seattle Fire Station 22
LPD Engineering provided comprehensive civil engineering services for the replacement of Seattle’s Fire Station 22, a 10,030-square-foot facility located at a complex intersection of neighborhoods and transportation infrastructure in Capitol Hill. The project site, surrounded by busy arterials and freeway structures, required creative solutions for site access and stormwater management. Our scope encompassed extensive coordination with WSDOT and SDOT regarding site access and future SR-520 lid improvements, while also meeting the City of Seattle’s stringent environmental requirements. LPD provided detailed site analysis, utility coordination including complex side sewer investigations, Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) design, site grading, and paving design to accommodate efficient emergency vehicle movements.
Working closely with Weinstein A+U and multiple agencies including WSDOT and SDOT, LPD’s expertise was instrumental in navigating complex site constraints and regulatory requirements. The project achieved LEED Platinum certification, featuring innovative stormwater solutions including bioretention planters, rainwater harvesting systems, and pervious pavement. Our firm’s ability to adapt to changing requirements was demonstrated when the building location needed to be adjusted to accommodate future pedestrian improvements along Roanoke Street, requiring careful coordination of site utilities, grading, and building access points.
