NW Kidney Centers
LPD Engineering provided civil engineering services for three new Northwest Kidney Centers dialysis facilities in the Puget Sound region, Burien, Port Angeles, and Rainier Beach. The largest project, located in Burien, encompassed a 40,000 SF clinic and administration building plus a 15,000 SF distribution facility on a 3.96-acre site, requiring complex coordination with multiple jurisdictions. The 11,800 SF Rainier Beach facility, designed to serve south Seattle residents, featured innovative stormwater solutions and required careful coordination of street improvements. The Port Angeles facility, approximately 10,000 SF, completed the trio of new facilities designed to improve regional access to critical kidney care services.
Working closely with Mahlum and Northwest Kidney Centers, LPD successfully navigated unique site challenges at each location. In Burien, this included managing separate site (STE) and building permit processes, coordinating utility extensions through a Developer Extension Agreement, and designing specialized containment systems for electrical infrastructure. The Rainier Beach project demanded creative solutions for stormwater management and careful coordination of frontage improvements to support the facility’s patient-centric design approach. Throughout all three projects, LPD’s expertise in managing complex permitting requirements and ability to adapt to evolving design needs proved essential to creating facilities that prioritize both operational efficiency and patient comfort.
