Evans Creek Preserve – Sammamish Parks

As the prime consultant, LPD Engineering provided comprehensive civil engineering design for the City of Sammamish Park’s multi-phased development of Evans Creek Preserve, a complex 179-acre natural area project that created public access infrastructure including trail systems, accessible pathways, parking facilities, and pedestrian bridges while preserving the site’s ecological integrity. Located in unincorporated King County, this environmentally sensitive project required careful navigation of extensive environmental regulations and critical area protections including multiple delineated wetlands, fish-bearing streams, floodplain areas, and critical aquifer recharge designations. LPD’s scope addressed the unique challenge of balancing public accessibility with environmental stewardship through sophisticated coordination with King County’s regulatory processes and innovative civil engineering solutions that minimized site impact while maximizing community access to this important natural resource.

Phase 1A and 1B encompassed primary infrastructure development including parking facility design, comprehensive trail and boardwalk systems with pedestrian bridge crossings over sensitive creek areas, composting restroom facilities, and innovative low-impact stormwater management featuring rain gardens, dispersal trenches, and full dispersion systems that eliminated traditional collection infrastructure while meeting stringent water quality protection requirements. The project utilized an innovative construction delivery approach coordinating Washington Trails Association volunteer labor with traditional public contracting, requiring sophisticated project phasing to accommodate multiple construction methodologies while maintaining strict environmental protection protocols throughout sensitive habitat areas.

Phase 2 expanded accessibility through targeted improvements to existing upper parking area infrastructure and development of new backcountry trail connections linking upper access points with lower trail systems established in Phase 1.
