West Seattle Stadium ADA Improvements – Seattle Parks and Recreation

LPD Engineering provided comprehensive civil engineering services for the West Seattle Stadium ADA Improvements project, addressing accessibility enhancement opportunities for design-bid-build delivery. Working in close partnership with design2LAST architects, the project scope encompassed site accessibility upgrades to existing pedestrian routes, pathways, sidewalks, parking areas, curb ramps, signage, entryways, bleacher seating, and restroom facilities to meet current ADA standards while addressing specific Department of Justice and Meeting the Challenge citations. This complex undertaking required careful coordination with multiple stakeholders including Seattle Parks and Recreation, the City of Seattle, and federal agencies through phased project delivery that maintained stadium operations throughout design and construction phases.

Phase 2A involved a targeted feasibility assessment for the aging north bleacher infrastructure, originally constructed in 1973. LPD provided comprehensive civil engineering analysis to identify renovation versus replacement options for the wood bleacher structure, evaluating utility capacity requirements and ADA accessibility connections to create cohesive site-wide accessibility. Working closely with design2LAST and Seattle Parks and Recreation, LPD prepared detailed assessment narratives summarizing existing conditions, recommended improvements, site and permitting constraints, and rough order of magnitude cost estimates, enabling informed decision-making for comprehensive stadium accessibility enhancement.

Phase 2B encompassed full design and construction administration services for the comprehensive ADA improvements identified through the feasibility study. LPD’s scope included site accessibility upgrades to pedestrian routes, pathways, sidewalks, parking areas, curb ramps, and facility access points to meet current accessibility standards. The project required sophisticated coordination with steep slope Environmental Critical Areas and existing drainage systems, while addressing regulatory requirements for over 1,500 SF of new and replaced surfaces triggering on-site stormwater management and flow control systems. LPD provided comprehensive civil engineering services including stormwater mitigation, grading and drainage design, paving plans, TESC coordination, construction specifications, cost estimating, extensive permitting coordination through Seattle’s regulatory processes and ProView Tech review management to enhance circulation throughout the recreational facility’s various spaces and ancillary components for the broader range of stadium visitors. LPD will provide civil engineering construction administration throughout construction anticipated for Fall of 2025.
