Tacoma Public Schools – Design-Build Athletic Facility Improvements
LPD Engineering provided civil engineering services as part of a progressive design-build team with DA Hogan and Korsmo Construction for Tacoma Public Schools’ $29.4 million district-wide athletic facilities improvement program. The program encompassed seven distinct sites across the district, including comprehensive upgrades at Browns Point Elementary, Giaudrone Middle School, Lincoln High School, Mason Middle School, Hilltop Heritage Middle School, Peck Athletic Complex, and Stadium High School’s field at Stanley Elementary. Our scope included site grading, drainage design, and utility coordination for new synthetic turf fields, rubberized running tracks, tennis courts, and associated amenities including restroom facilities, dugouts, and ADA accessibility improvements.
Working in close collaboration with DA Hogan and Korsmo Construction through the progressive design-build delivery method, LPD’s expertise was instrumental in managing the complex coordination required across multiple concurrent project sites. Each location presented unique site challenges, from managing drainage for synthetic turf installations to coordinating public street improvements. This bond-funded program significantly enhances recreational opportunities for students across the district while providing improved community assets through careful integration of ADA accessibility and modern athletic facilities that can be used year-round.
