Tacoma Public Schools & Parks Tacoma – Stadium High School Field at Peck Athletic Field Complex
LPD Engineering provided comprehensive civil engineering services for the $5 million Stadium High School Field redevelopment at Peck Athletic Field Complex in Tacoma, Washington. Representing Phase 1 of a two-phase master plan, this Parks Tacoma-owned property completed in December of 2024 included the conversion of a natural grass field to a multi-purpose synthetic turf facility. The project scope included site drainage systems, stormwater management, and erosion control. Despite challenges with existing infrastructure and water quality treatment requirements, our targeted approach successfully addressed the unique drainage constraints of the 9-acre site that ultimately discharges into Commencement Bay.
As part of a progressive design-build team with DA Hogan and Korsmo Construction, LPD Engineering’s specialized stormwater expertise proved essential in navigating the technical complexities of this high-profile community asset. Our close collaboration with project stakeholders, including Parks Tacoma and Tacoma Public Schools, ensured the design incorporated all necessary elements to support year-round playability while laying groundwork for the upcoming Phase 2. The completed Phase 1 facility now serves Stadium High School’s baseball team and the broader Hilltop community with modern amenities including bullpens, batting cages, and enhanced drainage systems. The future Phase 2 will further expand the complex with a multiuse synthetic field designed to accommodate various sports including baseball, soccer, and other recreational activities—collectively transforming a seasonal facility into a comprehensive, year-round athletic resource that will benefit the community for generations.
