The south service center is a secure, 24/7 operations facility with high capacity vehicle use. Due to the Spokane Street viaduct construction, a new entrance off of 4th Avenue South was needed. The site design involved reconfiguring of the central materials and operations yard and substation to incorporate a new entrance, guard station, loading dock, recessed dumpsters, security fencing, and pedestrian access. The revised circulation, site utility and drainage patterns improve efficiency.
Close coordination with the client ensured the design complied with the agency’s design standards and security protocols, and that the facility would remain operational and unimpeded by staging and vehicular movements during construction.
